DIY – Valentine’s Day Cards for beginners

Februminal1ary is the enchanting season of LOVE. Time of the year when we reciprocate our LOVE to our ‘most’ dearest and sweetest ones. February is the month bearing Valentine’s Day !!! This is the only day when despite no holiday, you feel the festive intoxication engulfing all religions, all nations alike. For years, right from school, I have witnesses the crazy love between friends, lovers, parents and siblings magnify as the day approaches. And in all these years, I feel my enthusiasm, my perspective might have skewed. While I hear my heart saying, ‘It’s the day of love and you must celebrate it,” my mind, on the other side, says, “Seriously … Oh common girl… Grow UP”! And with this tussle growing within me, I am already on February the 13th ***phewww*** I am left with just 24 hours at hand and I aim to do something special for my valentine. Anything that would converse my love in the MOST adorable way. Anything that would promise me a return of BIG BAG full of gratitude, amplified affection or maybe an expensive jewelry or something  ***WOOHOO*** (you might call that selfish, but I chose to call it sublime balance. You give LOVE to get LOVE… J)

Yes, coming back to my DIY Idea. If you are feeling what I am feeling with no time to invest on something super creative, no time to go shopping and get a beautiful card for your darling and no idea whatsoever to put up the show for D-Day. Well then let’s get back to the basics.Remember the time when every celebration called for a Greeting Card. The memories inscribed, year on year made the event unforgettable for further years to come. Now that is the basics I am talking about. This Valentine’s day let’s make some pretty simple Greeting Cards that can carry your personal love notes to commemorate the Valentine’s Day -2015! Total time estimated   to complete this DIY – 30 min.

To get started we wMinal1ill need some color papers (thick, handmade papers will be the best options). I am using card paper from some old wedding cards. My basic color palette has red, golden, pink and white colors. Now cut out some hearts in different colors. These heartsMinal1  have actually been traced and cut out from old wedding cards that were piling up in my waste paper section. ‘Recycle and reuse’… that’s  what good crafting is all about 🙂 Moving ahead, take the golden sheet of paper and fold it from center in the form of a regular card. And the arrange the hearts in whatever arrangement you fancy. I have shown you 2 arrangements below. You can choose to replicate the same or try any other pattern. Once the hearts are arranged and pasted or stitched, comes the turn of writing down the message on cover. Use you best hand writing to add some quirky or funny message on the front. What you wish to write inside is all your discretion 😉

The second interesting idea I tried was to cover the cardboard in bright red silk. Once again this silk bit was from my collection of old clothes which i was not able to part with… 🙂 I was happy that I converted into something that I would never have to throw away from the fear of going out of fashion or too tight. Now on this silken base, I added a few hearts to complete the front look of the card. Later I pasted this silk base on a red handmade paper of equal size and thus got my second card.  Minal1 Minal1

Simple, easy and definitely Quick to make. If you liked this idea then start making one of these for the one you love. Or for all those you love. Coz you know how they say, “Love is simple, don’t complicate”. Your spouses, lovers, parents, siblings, best friends, not so best friends need to know just how lucky you are because of them, to have them … 🙂

Happy Valentine’s Day my lovely readers!
