When the Supermarkets decided to sell fresh fruits and vegetables in meshes, I started collecting this new waste wrapper. As a hobby hunters, I could not resist myself from trying my hands on it. And given that Valentine’s Day is around the corner, I thought of designing something in accordance, to suit the mood.
It’s a simple DIY and it will be real fun if you read along and try making one for yourself.
I bought the oranges wrapped in this white mesh. The pattern and fluidity of this mesh was so appealing that I started craving to use it in its absolute original form. I fashioned wrapping this mesh on an empty Jam bottle, like the one on right.
To begin with, I took the oranges out and cut the mesh in a rectangular shape. Next step was to wrap this mesh carefully around the empty glass bottle. (Be careful while wrapping as over stretching the material might distort the regular shape of the mesh). Once I finished wrapping this mesh, I secured the wrapping by using a glue gun. (You can find a glue gun in any hardware shop. It is commonly used to fix toys, hard plastics, metals and I suppose almost everything. Its stronger than a PVC glue (fevicol) and also more durable. A best tool for any craftsman).
Okay, so coming back to the project, once I had secured the wrapping around the bottle, I started experimenting with decorations bit. As you see in the picture on the left, I sealed both ends of the wrap with adhesive golden lining. This further secured the mesh on bottle. And then added a few sparkly, twinkly stones randomly over the mesh. Shiny and shimmery is always my style. But here I have played it under just to enhance the webbed effect of the base wrap. And definitely, a valentine project is complete only when I have added a small, pretty, red heart.
You can now think of all possible ways to use this bottle. Either keep it empty as shown in the image above, or use it as a pen holder. I am using it to store my eye/lip liner holder and make up brushes. At least as long as I sense LOVE IN THE AIR, I have decided to give this jar a special place on my dressing table :)…
I have also illustrated the other options that you might wanna play with. Like this one below, i filled my jar with beautiful round glass balls. Guess the effect would accentuated more had I used clear glass balls. You may want to try that if you have some and share the pic with me 🙂
One more option is to wrap the neck of the bottle with cute little bow. I have used a red lace to tie around the bottle. Then sealed the bow with a small and pretty pink and now the bottle looks JUST SO ADORABLE!
I have also tried 2 other ideas of decorating the Jam bottle – one is to cover the interior of the glass bottle with Golden Sparkle and wrap a Black ribbon around it. It gives the glass bottle a very chic and glamorous appeal.
The other idea is to wrap a piece of jute around the bottle and trace and design using acrylic color. I drew the figure of a white bird and tied a white lace around the neck of the bottle to complement my patch work on jute. Jute is always Classy. Try this if your taste is simple, rustic and elegant.
Let me know what you think about this idea and please share the pictures if you decide to make something like this. Till then … Happy Crafting !
